Projects and Programs

Carers SA manages a number of projects and programs. The current projects and programs are listed below.

Projects

General Practitioners and Carers
Carers SA recognises the important part GP's play in the life of a Carer. The Association is currently working closely with The SA Division of General Practice and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners to develop an awareness raising education package for General Practitioners with information about where they can access support for Carers and how to identify Carers.

For more details about this project contact Carers SA on: Freecall 1800 815 549 or (08) 8271 6288

Carer Continence Pack
Carers SA, RDNS, Resthaven and the Alzheimers Association received Federal funding through the Innovative Grants Scheme to develop a Carer Continence Pack. This product is now available either from the Carer Advisory Service or by phoning the Government Aged and Community Care Information Line on 1800 500 853.

The package includes a booklet, magnet and Emergency toilet card.

The Commonwealth Minister for Health and Aging, Kevin Andrews launched this project in April 2002.

Programs

Carer Retreats
The Retreats program provides Carers across South Australia with an opportunity to "take a break", to meet with other Carers and to learn new skills. Funded by Home and Community Care Program.

Carer Support Groups who are registered with the Carer Retreat Program participate in this popular program. The Retreats should be organised by Carers but can be supported by a service provider or an agency.

Community Education
Trained staff and Carers provide community education talks to Carer groups, community groups, service providers etc.

If your organisation is planning professional training and would like more information about what can be offered in this area contact Carers SA on freecall 1800 815 549 or (080) 8271 6288.
