not yet fully complete, there are a range of new features we are
developing, but you can have a look at what we are working on now
by clicking here.

site aviable for a few months so you can readily look up what you
need until you are used to the new site. From the development team
here at Carers SA we hope you enjoy the new site.

The Federal Inquiry into better support for Carers
has now reached the end of it's first stage of consultation with
the deadline from submissions now past. Early reports suggest that

Inquiry into better support for Carers

Family, Community, Housing and Youth has announced an inquiry to
look into the support provided to Carers and is calling for submissions
from organisations and individuals.
This is a rare and important opportunity to help inform
the Federal Government about the realities of Caring and improve
the support provided to Carers. Carers SA encourages all interested
carers to have their say and put a letter or submission into the
inquiry.

Caring about Housing
A growing issue for Carers is the availability of
suitable housing for people with a mental illness. With policy changes
and a greater emphasis on living in the community, avoiding housing
stress for the mentally ill is an important factor in creating positive
conditions for recovery. It is clear that a lack of suitable housing
creates greater problems and demands on carers of the mentally ill.
“Many ageing carers have cared for and supported
their adult children with a mental illness for many years, but with
the carers’ own advancing years they are struggling to continue
to carry the extra load. The Mental Health Carers Housing Group
is now calling for action to improve the current situation,”
Ms Warmington CEO of Carers said.

SA Research Released - Carers at increased health
risk
The Health and Wellbeing of Adult Family Carers in
South Australia was released today (February 11) and found that
70 per cent of carers were significantly more likely to develop
at least one or more chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma,
arthritis, cardiovascular disease, than non-carers.
Carers SA CEO Rosemary Warmington said the figures highlighted
the urgent need to address the personal clinical health needs of
family carers within the health care system.
